5-Day Mount Kenya Climb via the Naro Moru Route
A five-day Naro Moru programme to Point Lenana, including a preparation night near Naro Moru and trekking through forest, moorland and the Vertical Bog to Mackinders Camp.
Programme
Day by day
Day 1
Nairobi to Naro Moru
Hotel pickup and transfer to Naro Moru for lunch, equipment preparation and a nature walk. Dinner and the overnight are at a mountain lodge or bunkhouse.
Day 2
Naro Moru Gate to Met Station
Register at Naro Moru Park Gate at about 2,600 metres and walk through forest to Met Station at 3,000 metres. Expect 10 kilometres, 3-4 hours and 400 metres of ascent.
Day 3
Met Station to Mackinders Camp
Continue from the forest into moorland and across the Vertical Bog to Mackinders Camp at 4,200 metres. Expect 10 kilometres, 5-6 hours and 1,200 metres of ascent.
Day 4
Mackinders Camp to Point Lenana and Met Station
Start around 2 am for Point Lenana, descend to Mackinders Camp for breakfast, then continue to Met Station. Expect 11 kilometres and 8-10 hours.
Day 5
Met Station to Nairobi
Descend approximately 9 kilometres through rainforest to Naro Moru Park Gate and connect with transport back to Nairobi.
