5-Day Mount Kenya Climb: Sirimon to Chogoria
A traverse of Mount Kenya from the Sirimon side to Chogoria, combining forest and high valleys with an acclimatisation circuit, a Point Lenana summit walk and descent through Chogoria.
Programme
Day by day
Day 1
Nairobi to Judmier Camp
Travel through Nanyuki to Sirimon Gate, then walk through forest and heathland to Judmier/Old Moses Camp at 3,300 metres. Expect 9 kilometres and 3-4 hours.
Day 2
Judmier Camp to Shipton Camp
Cross the Ontulili River and Liki North before climbing through Mackinders Valley to Shipton Camp at 4,200 metres. Expect 14 kilometres and 6-7 hours.
Day 3
Acclimatisation circuit to Austrian Hut
Walk via Kami Hut and the Hauseberg lakes before continuing to Austrian Hut for dinner and an overnight.
Day 4
Austrian Hut to Point Lenana and the Chogoria side
Leave before dawn for Point Lenana, descend to Mintos Hut for breakfast and continue to Meru Mount Kenya Bandas near Chogoria Gate. The overnight is in a tent.
Day 5
Chogoria to Nairobi
Walk approximately 15 kilometres to the forest clearing, transfer by four-wheel-drive vehicle to Chogoria village and connect with shared transport to Nairobi.
