5-Day Mount Kenya Climb via the Sirimon Route
A five-day Mount Kenya programme approaching Point Lenana through the Sirimon route, with nights at Judmier and Shipton camps before the early summit walk and descent.
Programme
Day by day
Day 1
Nairobi to Nanyuki
Travel from Nairobi by shared transport to Nanyuki. The afternoon is for preparation and acclimatisation, followed by dinner and an overnight at a camp.
Day 2
Nanyuki to Judmier Camp
Transfer to Sirimon Gate at 2,440 metres, then follow the forest and heathland track to Judmier Camp at 3,300 metres. Expect 9 kilometres and approximately 3-4 walking hours.
Day 3
Judmier Camp to Shipton Camp
Continue across the Ontulili River, Liki North and Mackinders Valley to Shipton Camp at 4,200 metres. Expect 14 kilometres and approximately 6-7 walking hours.
Day 4
Shipton Camp to Point Lenana and Old Moses Camp
Leave before dawn for Point Lenana, then return via Shipton for breakfast and descend to Judmier/Old Moses Camp. Expect 14 kilometres and approximately 6 walking hours.
Day 5
Old Moses Camp to Nairobi
Descend to the park gate, transfer to Nanyuki and connect with shared transport back to Nairobi.
