Day 1

Nairobi → Maasai Mara

Rift Valley views and a first drive

Your lodge safari begins with a hotel pick-up and a short briefing. The first stop is the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, looking across a landscape formed over millions of years. Continue via Narok to the Maasai Mara, famous worldwide for its wildlife. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive in search of zebra herds, elephant, lion, warthog and giraffe, returning to your lodge at sunset.

Day 2

Maasai Mara National Reserve

A full day on the stunning plains

Start with an optional hot-air balloon safari (extra cost, by pre-arrangement), then leave the lodge with picnic lunches for a full day exploring the wild plains. The Mara's extensive track network allows close encounters throughout the day. Hyenas scavenge, zebras huddle together for safety and elephants roam the open ground, while leopards may be hidden in the trees. Every game drive here is different.

Day 3

Maasai Mara → Lake Nakuru

Culture and the Rift Valley road

After breakfast, depart for an optional visit to a Maasai village, where you can interact with the community and hear their stories. Leave the reserve and drive to Lake Nakuru, with Mount Longonot visible from the road as you cross the Rift Valley. The drive trades open savannah for farmland, escarpments and the chain of lakes along the valley floor. Check in on arrival and rest after the journey, ready for rhinos and birdlife tomorrow.

Day 4

Lake Nakuru → Lake Naivasha

A park for birds and rhinos

Your guide collects you after breakfast for an extensive game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Over 400 bird species have been recorded here, and flamingos gather along the shore when conditions are right, contrasting with the zebras grazing nearby. The park protects white and black rhino, and lions are sometimes seen in the trees. Exit the park and continue to Lake Naivasha for lunch and a relaxed evening.

Day 5

Lake Naivasha → Nairobi

Hell's Gate and the homeward road

After an early breakfast, visit Hell's Gate National Park, one of the few places in Kenya where you can cycle among wildlife. Follow zebra trails by bike, or try a gorge walk or rock climbing. You can finish with a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to watch hippos before heading back to Nairobi, with lunch on the way, for drop-off at your hotel, residence or the airport.
