Day by day

Day 1
Nairobi → Maasai Mara
After pick-up from your hotel, drive down the spectacular Rift Valley escarpment, stopping for photographs, then continue through Narok, where there is a chance to buy snacks. Reach camp in the Maasai Mara for lunch and check-in, then begin with a sundowner game drive introducing the Mara plains and their residents. Return to camp for dinner.
Day 2
Maasai Mara National Reserve
Today is a whole day exploring the vastness of the Mara, one of the world's best-known reserves. Cheetah, elephant, buffalo and zebra are frequently seen, while antelope, warthog and wildebeest occur in large numbers. After a picnic lunch, keep exploring the plains for close wildlife encounters, perhaps reaching the Mara River with its crocodiles and hippos — the crossing point for migrating herds from the Serengeti in season.
Day 3
Maasai Mara → Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, there is an optional visit to a Maasai village to learn about the community's culture. Leave the reserve and drive towards Lake Nakuru, with Mount Longonot visible across the Rift Valley on the way. The route climbs out of the Mara's grasslands and runs past farmland and the valley's lakes, a scenic change of pace after days of game drives. Check in on arrival and rest after the long drive.
Day 4
Lake Nakuru → Lake Naivasha
Enter Lake Nakuru National Park for an extensive game drive. This park is a bird lover's paradise with over 400 recorded species, and flamingos may line the shore. White and black rhino live under protection here, and lions sometimes rest in the trees. Look closely among the acacias for giraffe, antelope and gazelle. After lunch, continue to Lake Naivasha for the evening.
Day 5
Lake Naivasha → Amboseli
After breakfast, take a nature walk in Hell's Gate National Park, with its cliffs and gorges, before driving south to Amboseli. Walking among grazing zebra and giraffe offers a different perspective from the vehicle. The park lies below Mount Kilimanjaro, giving breathtaking views for wildlife watching once you arrive. Lunch is taken on the way, and you reach Amboseli in the evening, ready for a full day on its plains.
Day 6
Amboseli National Park
Spend a full day in Amboseli. Your Kenyan adventure today includes panoramic views, large elephant herds moving slowly against Mount Kilimanjaro, buffalo bathing in the swamps, and giraffe, zebra, warthog and lion across the semi-arid plains. After a picnic lunch under a shady tree, continue scouring the park. When the clouds open in the evening, the mountain's summit makes a fairytale backdrop.
Day 7
Amboseli → Tsavo East
After an early breakfast and a short game drive out of Amboseli, head east to Tsavo East National Park, arriving in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive explores this huge, open park, where the elephants are often coloured by its red soil. Lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and antelope are among the other animals you may encounter.
Day 8
Tsavo East → Nairobi or Mombasa
Take an early game drive before breakfast — the best chance to catch predators while it is still cool, and to see Tsavo East's red-dusted elephants against the open bush. Return for breakfast and check out, then drive back to Nairobi, or continue to Mombasa for a beach holiday on the coast. The journey closes a route that ran from the Mara through the Rift Valley and Amboseli to one of Kenya's largest wilderness areas.
