Day 1

Nairobi → Maasai Mara

Private road transfer to the Mara

Your private driver-guide meets you in Nairobi for the drive west through the Great Rift Valley. With your own vehicle you can stop where you like — the valley viewpoint, roadside markets or Narok for a break — before continuing into Maasai country. Arrive at your lodge for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive, timing your return to enjoy the evening light over the plains.

Day 2

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Your day, your pace

A private vehicle makes the Mara's game drives entirely yours. Leave early to catch the cooler hours when lions and cheetah are often most active, stay longer at a sighting that interests you, and break for a picnic lunch wherever suits. The reserve's open savannah, riverine woodland and rolling hills hold elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, topi and many birds, and your guide will read the day's conditions to plan the route.

Day 3

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Rivers, plains and quiet corners

Spend a second full day exploring areas you have not yet seen. Between July and October, migrating wildebeest and zebra may gather along the Mara River, and waiting at a crossing point can reward patience — though timing is never guaranteed. At other times of year, the reserve's resident predators and plains game offer excellent viewing. An optional balloon flight at dawn can be arranged at extra cost.

Day 4

Maasai Mara → Nairobi

Morning drive and return

Take a final early game drive before breakfast, when the Mara's predators are often active and the grassland is at its most beautiful in the low light. Then check out and drive back to Nairobi, leaving the reserve through Narok and climbing the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Travelling privately, your guide can plan the timing around your onward flight or hotel, with drop-off at either.
