Day 1

Nairobi → Maasai Mara

Leaving the city behind

After a briefing at the Budget Holiday Safaris office, leave the bustle of Nairobi and follow the Great Rift Valley, pausing at the scenic viewpoint. Continue to the Maasai Mara, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, head out for game viewing — the landscape is breathtaking, and the trails of wildlife across the grassland set the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2

Maasai Mara National Reserve

A haven for the big cats

A whole day at the Maasai Mara exploring its vast plains. Cheetah, elephant, buffalo and zebra are often prominent, while antelope, warthog and wildebeest are present in large numbers. Pause for a picnic lunch, then keep exploring for close encounters, perhaps reaching the Mara River with its crocodiles and hippos — the point where migrating herds cross from the neighbouring Serengeti in season.

Day 3

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The majestic wild plains

Leave the lodge in the morning for a second day on the Mara's plains. The reserve is home to huge herds of elephant and zebra year-round, with the wildebeest migration usually arriving between July and October depending on the rains. With a second full day, your guide can explore further afield and revisit areas where lions or cheetah were active, giving you excellent opportunities to see much of what the Mara offers.

Day 4

Maasai Mara → Nairobi

Maasai culture and the return

After breakfast, check out and visit a Maasai village to learn about the community's traditions and hear their stories (optional, extra cost). Drive back towards Nairobi, climbing out of the Mara region through Narok and across the Rift Valley, with an optional stop at Lake Naivasha on the way. Arrive for drop-off at your hotel or the airport, after four days focused entirely on the Maasai Mara and its wildlife.
