Day 1

Nairobi → Amboseli

To the foot of Kilimanjaro

Leave Nairobi for Amboseli, where your camp sits in elephant country with views towards Kilimanjaro. The drive south crosses open Maasai rangeland before the park's plains come into view. After settling in, an afternoon game drive explores the park's swamps and open plains, where elephant families come to drink and feed. As the light softens, watch for the mountain's summit emerging from the clouds, a classic first evening on safari.

Day 2

Amboseli National Park

Elephant families beneath the mountain

Spend the day exploring Amboseli with your guide. The park's permanent swamps attract elephant, buffalo and hippo, while the drier plains are good for zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and predators such as lion and cheetah. Luxury camps in the area offer a relaxed rhythm between drives, and the early-morning and late-afternoon light is especially good for photography.

Day 3

Amboseli → Lake Naivasha

From savannah to the Rift Valley lakes

Travel from Amboseli to Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley, a journey that swaps dry, open plains for a freshwater lake and green hills. The lake is fringed by papyrus and yellow-barked acacias, and its shores are rich in birdlife, including fish eagles, while hippos wallow in the shallows. Arrive at Loldia House for a peaceful evening by the lake, a quiet interlude between two wildlife-rich parks.

Day 4

Lake Naivasha → Maasai Mara

A lakeside morning, then the Mara

Enjoy a relaxed morning at Lake Naivasha — perhaps a boat ride among the hippos or a walk in the grounds — before continuing to the Maasai Mara. The route crosses the Rift Valley and the farmland around Narok before the landscape opens into rolling grassland. Arrive at your luxury camp and head out on a first game drive across the reserve's golden plains, where lion, elephant and plains game are often seen.

Day 5

Maasai Mara

A full day in big-cat country

Spend a full day exploring the Mara with your guide, from the open grassland where lion prides and cheetah hunt to the riverine woodland favoured by leopard. Between July and October, migration herds may be present, depending on the rains; at other times the resident wildlife still offers superb viewing. Many luxury camps offer bush breakfasts or sundowners, which your planner can help arrange as part of the day.

Day 6

Maasai Mara → Nairobi

Last light on the plains

Take a final morning game drive, a last chance to watch the Mara wake up and to look for the big cats that have shaped the past days. Return to camp to pack before leaving the reserve by road for Nairobi. Your planner will confirm the timing of the drive to suit your onward travel, so the journey home fits around your flights and any further plans in Kenya or beyond.
